German Longfellow - Relatives
Is there anybody, who knows something about relations between Francis Graeter, his wife Elizabeth Goodwin and H.W.Longfellow. Are there letters, illustrations, notes etc in the archives or mouth by mouth radition of Longfeollow descendants ? Francis Graeter was a refugee from Germany in New England between ca 1825 -1845, a writer, illustrator and a man of the german revolution. My great-great grandmother Elizabeth Goodwin Graeter (born 1813 in Sterling MA as daughter of the lawyer and historian Isaac Goodwin and Elizabeth Hammatt, both of Plymouth. Elizabeth Goodwin Graeter died 1875 in Aalen Germany. She was the elder sister of the author Jane Goodwin Austin and the politican and historian John A.Goodwin. We must be cousins the Longfellows, as we share names as Bartlett, Alden, Samsons, Standish etc our ancester-tree. Anybody interessted in changing informations on this topic with me, despite my bad English ? Rudlieb Graeter, Kiel, Germany

What an interesting site. Perhaps you have found my family tree. I originate from Guiseley,Yorkshire one of the first sources of the tree. Guiseley if you do not know is three miles from Otley where your first recorded Longfellow is known to be from. Would be interested to communicate with any of you Colonials.
